The Friday before our grand Christmas Open House (yes…the day before!) I got a mysterious phone call. After I hung up…I was stunned. It was from Carmine of the Iowa Governor’s Office. They asked ME to contribute a Christmas ornament to the governor’s Christmas tree representing Pocahontas County. She said I could even send one from the store if I had one. Nope. I had none. And the deadline was in about one week.
What to do…what to do. The Sunday after the Open House I went for a drive with a girlfriend who is also a wonderful go-to-girl. She used to be in retail so she understands that crazy mentality. We threw around ideas…paint an ornament? gather metal filings in epoxy? WHAT TO DO???
That is when my friend made a statement that ROCKED MY WORLD! She said “why don’t you do what you are best at? Do a dried flower ornament! It is what you started with…and they asked you to do it.”. Bells…whistles…fireworks…they all went off when she said that.
So that is what I did! First started off with the base…

Then added moss and binding to give it some structure:

Then add some wonderful dried flowers…peonies, yarrow, and more!

Starting to take shape…couldn’t believe how much I missed and LOVED doing this!

Time for a little sparkle!

And then let everyone know at Terrace Hill Mansion where it came from…

Then it was time to package it up and send it away…

I am now waiting for the formal invitation to go to the tree lighting ceremony in December…so expect a follow-up on this!!!
